Plymouth City Council awards Clear Channel UK with a 10-year contract to provide bus shelters to the city following a competitive tender.
The ambitious project includes the replacement of over 370 bus shelters in the city, accompanied by 20 Living Roofs.
Plymouth’s bus shelters are set to receive a major upgrade as part of an ambitious replacement programme.
The investment project will be carried out by the infrastructure and out of home media organisation, Clear Channel UK, following a competitive tender.
In Spring 2023, Clear Channel will commence work to replace more than 370 bus shelters in the city, 23 of which will include a Living Roof. The brand-new, well-maintained, modern infrastructure will improve the street scene and enhance the local environment whilst also meeting the environmental and sustainability aspirations of the city.
Living Roofs will also be installed atop Plymouth’s modernised shelters, helping to positively contribute towards biodiversity and climate resilience, absorb rainwater and aid the reduction of the ‘Urban Heat Island Effect’, ultimately helping to make the city a greener and happier place.
Operating at no cost to the taxpayer or the council, the new contract will also include all cleaning and maintenance of the bus shelters.
Will Ramage, Joint Managing Director at Clear Channel UK, says: “Clear Channel are committed to helping to shape the future of Plymouth, which is why we we’re so excited to get started on working to transform our city streets with the sustainable infrastructure needed to enhance the local environment.
We want to ensure that every structure we build, in all the environments that we operate in, brings some form of positive and tangible benefit to the public, whether directly or indirectly. Which is why we’re thrilled to partner with Plymouth City Council whose values closely align with our own.”
